In 2013, the Tug Valley Road Runners Club celebrated their first ever Bill Smith Memorial Bulldog 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk. The 5K was in honor of Bill Smith, a celebrated member of the community who passed away that year. Bill was known throughout the community for his work as the Burch Ladydogs coach, and was widely credited with growing the boys and girls basketball teams.
Given all he had brought to the community in his lifetime, it is no surprise that, after his passing, the community wanted to find a way to honor him. For a gentleman so strongly associated with athletics in the area, a 5K Run was the perfect way to do so.
The Bulldog 5k Run starts in downtown Delbarton, and runs through various neighborhoods, Route 65, around the Delbarton City Hall, and finishes near the Delbarton Opry House. The 10th Annual Bill Smith Memorial 5K will take place Saturday, September 3 at 8AM. Each participant will receive a shirt, finisher medal, and age awards will be presented. Race day registration cost will be $30 per person or $25 per person for kids 14 and under. Registration will be 6:30-7:45am. To learn more, visit the Facebook event page.
