Matewan, West Virginia has been bustling with holiday celebrations since November 27th, when they had their 2nd Annual Town of Matewan Tree Lighting, and now they’re ready to add to the Christmas fun with a Christmas Parade, Christmas Cookie Challenge, Live Nativity, and more!
The Cookie Challenge will kick off Friday, December 10th at noon. Cookies will be judged same-day, but winners won’t be announced until Saturday evening. Also, on Friday evening, from 6:00pm-8:00pm, the town will have their first ever live Nativity scene, created in partnership with East Point Fellowship Church. The live Nativity will run December 10th-12th from 6:00pm-8:00pm, and, according to town recorder Crystal Moore, “everyone from everywhere is welcome to drive through town to enjoy!”
Saturday, December 11th will feature Matewan’s Christmas Parade. “This event was a huge success last year, and we’re praying for good weather so that we can give our community another night and a parade to enjoy,” Crystal says. The parade will be headed by Crystal, Jenna Chafin, the town council, and Matewan Mayor Matt Moore. “Everyone works together to provide our town with the best experience possible," she adds.
Parade lineup will run from 5:30pm-7:00pm, and will roll out at 7:00 pm. This year, organizers are inviting anyone and everyone with an ATV, Jeep, or golf cart to decorate for Santa and enter to win a cash prize. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus will be meeting with all the kids to pass out treat bags and take photos. Free hot chocolate will be provided.
