It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and there is absolutely no shortage of things to do! From shopping to meal-prep to spending time with family, it can be tough to tune out the carols and find a little time for ourselves. One great way to get a little quiet time while staying festive is with a holiday read or two, and we have all of the best recommendations from the owner of Maple Grove Books herself, Maryann Lendearo.
“In A Holidaze by Christina Lauren is our bookclub read this month, and it is a fun light hearted read that is perfect for the holidays,” Maryann says. “Think the movie Groundhog Day, but for Christmas!” She also recommends Jean Shepherd’s A Christmas Story– yes, that one! “The movie is great, but the book is even better!”
Maryann also recommends The Vanderbeekers of 141 Street, by Karina Yan Glaser, a middle-grade book “but just so sweet!” This book covers a family’s fight to keep their home during the Christmas season, and, according to Maryann, “it’s just a great representation of the strength and love of a family unit.”
For teens, Maryann recommends reading The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand. “This is a great read for the holidays or just anytime,” Maryann says. “It’s a retelling of A Christmas Carol, full of second chances and life lessons.”
As for the kiddos, Maryann recommends reading Sounding Joy by Ellie Holcomb. “It’s a cute little book that explores all the ways we can experience joy, especially around Christmas time.”
There is still plenty of time to pick up these titles. For these and other festive reads, check out Maple Grove Books located in The Collective Retail & Artisan Shops on 2nd Ave in downtown Williamson. Merry Reading!
