June is Men's Health Month

Across the country, June is celebrated as Men’s Health Month, a time to put the spotlight on Men’s Health and raise awareness about important issues. Men’s Health Month is to encourage boys and men to take charge of their health in all ways possible, and to be aware of health conditions that might be a risk for them. This month has existed since the 1990s, and since then, it’s only grown in impact.

Spotlight on Men's Health

The Men’s Health Month Website features a variety of resources and fact sheets for those looking to better understand what health conditions and illnesses men might be at risk for. If you’re a guy, using resources like this to inform the steps you’re taking to preserve your health, can be a great idea.

Another part of Men’s Health Month is just encouraging men to make healthy decisions and live healthier lives. A way to celebrate this can just be to make June the month for healthy choices, such as improving diet, exercise, and the amount of sleep you’re getting. It can also be a good idea to use this month to get a checkup.

Here are some other ways you might acknowledge this year’s men’s health month.

The Men’s Health Month website recommends planning a Wear Blue event in order to raise public awareness about Men’s Health Month. Wear Blue Day falls on the Friday before Father’s Day, but planning a local Wear Blue event at work, church, or in your community, can be a way to draw attention to men’s health anytime of the month.

You could also put together some tables at the library, work, church, or gym with some displays on men’s health issues, or ask organizations in the area to take the time to put the spotlight on men’s health themselves.

If you’d rather focus on yourself and your fellow guys, you could also just take the time to plan an active day with your pals, by going hiking, swimming, or playing a game of ball together. No matter how you choose to celebrate this month, there are plenty of ways to make this informative and important month as good-for-you as possible!
