New Business Path
During the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Dustin Maynard was laid off from his job as a coal miner after 16 years. He briefly returned when the pandemic began to let up, only to find himself laid off once again. This time, he decided not to return, and to make use of a piece of property he had inherited in 2019. That’s when Becky and Dustin decided to move forward with their own lodging business.
Together, they began work on what was to become Country Roads ATV Retreat. “It took a lot of sweat and tears,” Becky says.”But we finally opened the doors in May 2022, and it has continued to grow!” Their success is something they are especially proud of, as both of them have no prior experience with running a retreat of this kind, and they are “entirely self-taught,” according to Becky. “We had no idea how to run a business, how to build a website, and we truly went in blind.”
Beautiful Lodgings with Plenty of Extras
Country Roads ATV Retreat, located near Delbarton, West Virginia, offers lodgings and tours to anyone who seeks to explore this region, though they do offer special rates for veterans, first responders, and truckers. Their lodgings have 3 bedrooms and can sleep up to ten people, as well as offering a hammock and outdoor firepit, a roku-equipped television in the living room and in every bedroom, and provided linens and towels. The location is near the trails, as well as gas and food. Becky is also sure to highlight “the best coffee bar” and a gift shop located inside of the retreat.
Becky and Dustin are happy to have developed this “top notch” business, and to have gathered a “great following” of customers who they consider friends. After a year of being open, the pair is still growing and learning, and are excited to see what comes next.
