The Mingo-Pike American Association of American Women(AAUW) is once again sponsoring an International Women’s Day Program on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. The program will be held at the Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College Williamson Campus in the Technology Building. This will be an informal, come and go as you can meeting from 4:30pm - 7:30pm. Refreshments will be available. Women of all ages are welcome to drop by to enjoy time out among friends.
Jada C. Hunter, President of Mingo-Pike AAUW and AAUW WV, also encourages those attending to wear blue and gold in support of the ladies of the Ukraine, as well as all citizens of that country. RSVP is not needed. Please plan to stop by this International Women’s Day Reception.
Jada explains, "AAUW, has been advocating for women and girls since 1881, and we are dedicated to continuing AAUW's leadership role of empowering women and advancing gender equity through research, education, and advocacy. Since March is Women's History Month, and March 8th has been designated as International Women's Day, we wanted to celebrate the wonderful, brilliant women of the Mingo and Pike County areas, as well as women around the world, by having this reception for all of them!"
According to InternationalWomensDay.com, International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group, or organization specific.
