Ready for some fall-inspired fun for the kids? Pumpkin Palooza at the Market is described by Kristin DeBoard, Nutrition and Marketing Manager for Williamson Health and Wellness Center, as being a fun way to end farmers market season and encourage kids to come to the market. The pumpkin fun is scheduled for Saturday, September 12th from 11am - 1pm at the Williamson Farmers Market Lot on 3rd Avenue in Williamson. The day will feature pumpkin painting, the great pumpkin roll, and as many pumpkins for purchase as you could want!
Farm Fun
Kristin and the rest of the folks at the Williamson Farmers Market, are looking to bring more agricultural tourism to the area with events like these. “We have no agritourism in Mingo County, so I feel like if we can show people how fun farm life can be, it is helpful. Many counties have pumpkin patches and corn mazes, and people see the beauty of the farms and simplistic fun, so hopefully, little events like this that feature some of that fall fun will help replace that lack,” says Kristen.
According to their Facebook event page, at 11am Cook Through a Book will begin. Kids age 4-9 will enjoy a reading of The Very Best Pumpkin and a premade pumpkin pie in a cup snack. Up next is pumpkin painting from 11:30am-12:30am. During this hour, kids ages 0-15 will pick up their pumpkin, bottle of paint, and a brush to take home for painting. Finally, at 12:30pm the pumpkin race begins! Participants of all ages are encouraged to bring their pumpkin on wheels(be creative!) to see which one rolls down the ramp the quickest! All events are set up in a socially distanced way and will adhere to all COVID safety guidelines.
Kristin is most excited for the pumpkin race. “We use the ramp at the side of City Gym and line up pumpkins and then race them down the ramp. Very simple, just some plain old fun for the kids.”
For an extra added treat during the day, Pop's Snow Palace will be at the market serving up Italian Ice, shaved ice, hot dogs, and pretzels. Yum!
