Spotlight on Williamson Farmers Market for National Farmers Market Week

The first week of August is National Farmers Market Week! This is the perfect time to celebrate all that farmers markets bring to their respective communities. Farmers markets connect local growers with local shoppers who are in need of fresh fruits, veggies, and more! To celebrate National Farmers Market Week, Williamson Forward is putting the spotlight on our own Williamson Farmers Market.

Supporting Local Growers

Williamson Farmers Market is a staple in promoting health to the region, providing folks with healthy and locally grown produce, rather than pesticide-laden, tasteless produce. They also promote the local economy, explains Kristin Brewer DeBoard, Marketing and Nutrition Manager with the Williamson Farmers Market. “We help to stimulate the local economy. When you buy from the vendors, you’re helping someone pay their bills.”

More than the Market

While the Saturday morning farmers market alone is a great asset to the area, that’s not all they have to offer. They also offer the Mobile Market, which takes the produce out to folks who might not be able to drive to the market on a regular basis, including residents in the Lenore, Matewan, Chapmanville, Dingess, and Delbarton areas.

The market also offers meal kits, community cooking classes for kids and adults, and Music at the Market, which puts the spotlight on local musicians while shoppers pick up their groceries.

Take time this week to celebrate the Williamson Farmers Market and all that they bring to this area. Happy National Farmers Market Week!
