The Taste of Summer

What’s Your Favorite Summer Foods?

For many people, summer is the best time of year. The kids are out of school, you can spend all day in the sunshine, and the food is always wonderful. Some people enjoy cookout fare, like burgers and hotdogs, and others enjoy nothing more than a slice of their favorite summer fruit.

Making Summer Memories

For Tonya Cool, owner and operator of Reflections Salon and Spa, the best summer foods remind us of our best memories. “My favorite summer food reminds me of some of my favorite times with my family,” she says. “My dad loves gardening, so we always had fresh veggies. He would take aluminum foil and chop a bunch of veggies add butter with spices and wrap it up and put it on the grill!” Tonya’s dad called this “veggie packs”, and she recalls how excited she’d be when he cooked it as a kid. “We’d all keep asking when it would be ready because it was so amazing!”

Crystal Marie, the owner of Sky High Geckos and Exotics, also loves food right off the grill. For her the taste of summer is grilled bacon cheeseburgers cooked on a charcoal grill.

Josiah Hatcher, a local young gardener, prefers his summer food straight from the garden itself. When asked what his favorite summer food is he says, “Watermelon!”

Kim McClanahan also enjoys her summer snacks from the garden, “Fried green tomatoes are the best!” she says.

From grilled foods to fruits and veggies from your own garden or your local farmers market like the Williamson Farmers Market, summer certainly has a lot to offer for the foodie in you.
