Since 2012, the Tug Valley Road Running Club (TVRRC) has been bringing some spooky fun to Williamson with the Killer 5K and 1 Mile Walk. Starting and ending at the Williamson Field House, his run takes participants through the neighborhoods of West Williamson, including going through the Fairview Cemetery. According to TVRRC President Alexis Batausa the name has stuck because the course is pretty killer!
Participants are encouraged to dress up in their best costumes for the run, and there will be a chance to win door prizes. There will be no age awards, but there will be awards for Top Male and Top Female winners. The first 100 finishers will receive a unique, handcrafted medal from Crafty Blooms Designs.
Alexis finds events like this are great for bringing awareness about health and physical activity to the area, and his favorite part is seeing everyone in their costumes. “I love seeing participants dress up and have fun, and the volunteers like to get involved and dress up as well.”
Another great thing about this race is, proceeds are donated to the Tug Valley Recovery Shelter. The TVRS provides assistance to women and children leaving a domestic violence situation.
The Killer 5K and 1-Mile walk begins at 6pm on Saturday, October 23rd. Registration fee for the Killer 5K is $20 for 15 years old and older, and $15 for 14 years old and under. Online registration is open now and race day registration will take place from 4pm-5:45pm.. Visit the Facebook event page to learn more.
