Are you an animal lover looking to get some exercise in? The Tug Valley Road Runners Club's Cause for Paws race should feel like “the cat’s meow” to you!
Helping Our Furry Friends
Cause for Paws is actually 3 races, says Leigh Ann Ray, race director and member of TVRRC. According to Leigh Ann, this race offers a 10K, 5K, or 1 mile walk option. All three races will benefit Save Our Strays Animal Rescue, which is perfect for Leigh Ann, who is a devoted animal lover. “I am a huge animal lover, and I have participated in animal rescue for many years,” she says.
TVRRC hasn’t confirmed the routes for this year’s run, but they plan to host from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College’s Williamson campus, as they have since the race started in 2014.
There will be a few changes to this year’s run. Some of them, of course, are the result of COVID-19. “This year’s race has to be different due to the pandemic,” Leigh Ann says. “We cannot congregate for an award’s ceremony, so this year, once we have our results, I will email a certificate to each person, signifying their award.”
The race will also go without the usual medals, given that the company they use for medals is unavailable this year. However, the club will not leave participants without something to commemorate the race! They will still offer finisher t-shirts, which will be passed out at the finish line. The shirts are Leigh Ann’s favorite part. “I usually do the design for each race...this year’s design is a throwback to our original design of a dog and cat running in a race.”
One unique thing about the race that hasn’t changed is, participants are still encouraged to bring their furry friends along for the day!
