If you’re looking to support a young entrepreneur while indulging in your passion for fishing, meet Bo Collins. 8-year old Bo has started making and selling fishing lures. He tells us he was inspired by his dad’s hobby.
“My dad made fishing lures for us to use when we went fishing,” Bo says. “I thought, well, if people buy them from other places, they will buy them from me.”
To make his lures, Bo melts lead and pours it into a mold with a hook in it. “Then, I cut off the top and use a file,” he says. “Then, I heat the lead on a heat gun, and dip it in what is called a fluid bed of powder paint that my dad built.”
Bo is a second grader at Belfry Elementary, and he’s got a great sense of humor. When asked about his favorite subject in school he says, “Well, since they won’t let me go to the creek in front of the school and fish, my favorite time at school is lunch!”
Want to get your hands on one of these lures? Bo will be selling his wares at the Southern WV Fishing Expo and Swap Meet on March 13th at the Williamson Field House.
